Description
The History of Being Poor
Responsable de cours : Anne COUSSON
The class will focus on the history of poverty in the UK since the 18th century. We will study the evolution of the legal framework meant to deal with the issue of poverty as well as the experience and representation of the poor up until present-day Britain. The class will help students identify key concepts that have structured policies for centuries and how they have been translated into laws.
The students will have to produce a portfolio of work and the TD will allow them to develop and improve on this work throughout the semester through the study of primary sources as well as writing practice.
