This course is based on weekly oral presentations prepared and delivered by panels of students (in general around an hour but it can vary between 45 and 75mn). At the beginning of the semester each panel of students is assigned a subject for their presentations (for instance: Parliament, the Monarchy, The Welfare State) with a date for their presentations which will be the core of each weekly class.

Presentations are expected to be the equivalent of a class delivered to the other students, including ppt slides, outline, bibliographical references, hand outs, short videos or audio archives... Students are encouraged to defend a thesis on the subject they present, not just to produce a list of facts....

Plagiarism, intentional or nor, is strictly prohibited for students presentations. For a description of what plagiarism is, see for example:

https://www.ox.ac.uk/students/academic/guidance/skills/plagiarism?wssl=1

Each presentation is followed by an open Q& A session on the presentation itself, and in the last part of the class I propose a general review of the presentation, coming back on certain points which I consider deserve greater scrutiny and explanation.

Each student is graded individually for its own performance on the presentation.

The last week of the semester is dedicated to a written test on selected topics studied during the semester. Students will have to answer questions on one or several topics on which they did not do the oral presentation.
