This seminar will examine the theoretical framework and political activism of the so-called “second wave of feminism” as well as its ramifications with other social and political movements of the time. This course, which will cover the period between 1945 and 1990, will mostly use primary sources so as to understand the origins and objectives of this second wave of feminism as well as the challenges and opposition it had to face.


  • to develop critical thinking skills through the analysis of a variety of primary sources and secondary sources

  • to grasp key concepts related to gender studies

  • to learn about how women from different backgrounds used individual and collective actions to bring changes to their status in American society

  • to understand the interconnections between the second wave of feminism and other social and political movements taking place at the same time
